I did a DTS in 2006 with Youth with a Mission. I really felt God birth in me the ministry for Baptism and Holy Spirit. I was baptised on 20 March 2004 and filled with the Holy Spirit about a week after, they prayed for me after I was baptised but I felt transformed one night lying in my bed trying to pray in tongues and it just started to flow. That was when I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
The first reference to the Holy Spirit in the Bible is in Genesis 1:1-2 1 in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was [a] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. The Holy Spirit was active and present at creation hovering over the unordered condition. The first time I heard this in a teaching I was shocked because I had never noticed that no matter how many times I read that passage before. I always thought of the Holy Spirit as a New Testament helper. Then I started to research the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament and this is what I found. It helped with Supernatural abilities (Genesis 41:38). The giver of artistic skill (Exodus 31:2-5). The source of power and strength (Judges 3:9-10). The inspiration of prophecy (1 Samuel 19: 20 & 23) The meditation of God’s message (Micah 3:8). The cleansing of the heart for holy living (Ezekiel 36:25-29). The difference between the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament and the New Testament is as follows. In the Old Testament the spirit of God came upon the people and they were able to do what the Lord intended to do and then the Holy Spirit would leave. In the New Testament the Holy Spirit comes and lives in us helping and guiding us always. So if the same spirit which gave all those ability’s in the old testament is now living in me then I should also be able to ask for that and I should be able to do that.
The Holy Spirit enables a believer to walk in holiness
Romans 8:1-8 1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, [a] 2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. 3For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature,[b] God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering.[c] And so he condemned sin in sinful man,[d] 4in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.
5Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6The mind of sinful man[e] is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; 7the sinful mind[f] is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
Galatians 5:16-25 16So I say live by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature? They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit let us keep in step with the Spirit.
The Holy Spirit will give you power
Luke 24:49
49I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
Being filled with the Holy Spirit is the most amazing feeling that you would ever experience in the world.
